TasWater hires new CEO

TasWater has announced that George Theo will be replacing Mike Brewster as chief executive officer.

Theo has over 30 years’ experience in the water industry, which includes roles at City West Water, GHD and Brisbane Water.

TasWater board chairman Dr Stephen Gumley said Theo challenges the status quo to deliver sustainable outcomes that benefit customers, the environment, stakeholders and employees.

“George has overseen transformation in the way businesses approach productivity improvements, capital planning and delivery, asset management, digital solutions, pricing, community and customer outcomes,” Gumley said.

“We are pleased he will be taking up the reins here at TasWater on 14 March 2022.”

Theo is also the current chairman of not-for-profit SWAN Asia Pacific Alliance.

The alliance mobilises important figures in the water industry across the region, focusing on technology, research and digital transformation.

Theo is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors

He also has a Master’s in Business Administration, a Degree in Engineering and an Associated Diploma in Municipal Engineering.

Theo will replace outgoing TasWater CEO Mike Brewster, who is retiring.
