The Australasian High Pressure Water Jetting Association (AUSJET) has made Class A Training – high pressure water jetting equipment, available online for industry.
AUSJET Chair Peter Jones said the course is for members of water jetting teams who are not competent to operate independently and need to have basic competencies before working under supervision.
“This not only involves technical competence in high pressure water jetting but also requires safe operation at a worksite that is not familiar to the operator,” Mr Jones said.
AUSJET is the peak national industrial services industry representative body and exists to strengthen safety standards for business and industry working in the Water Jetting, Drain Cleaning, Vacuum Loading and Hydro Excavation industries.
Formed initially as a response to injuries sustained in the water jetting industry, Mr Jones said the risk of severe injury is lower when using Class A pumps as compared to Class B pumps however, Class A pumps can still cause a water injection which can have serious health implications.
“It is important operators of Class A High Pressure Water Jetting Pumps are aware of the risks and the hazards to prevent injuries. It is also a requirement of AS4233 High Pressure Water Jetting Systems for all operators to be fully trained and competent.”
Mr Jones added whilst there is Class B training through RTO’s, there was a gap in the available training for operators of Class A systems.
“AUSJET developed the online training package to meet the training needs of these operators,” he said.
“Originally the training package was available via a USB however, the industry needed an in-time solution available online. AUSJET listened to the needs of industry and has now developed an online solution.”
