Trenchless in Valencia: More than 500m of SAERTEX-LINER H2O potable water UV liner installed

SAERTEX-LINER - Pipe Core - Valencia

With the successful installation of SAERTEX-LINER H2O, the potable water supply for over 1.6 million people in Valencia, Spain, was secured in the late summer of 2020.

Running the project was Spanish company GRUPO CANALIS – Soluciones Tecnológicas who turned to SAERTEX multiCom GmbH and their advanced UV-CIPP technology to rehabilitate the ageing pipeline.

The job spanned 500 m of DN 600 cast iron pipe which supplied the Metropolitan region of Valencia with potable water.

GRUPO CANALIS – Soluciones Tecnológicas was charged with the task of running a sustainable project, that protected existing infrastructure, kept costs low and minimised the disruption to the residents in the region.

SAERTEX multiCom’s pressure-resistant and hygienic SAERTEX-LINER H₂O was selected for the job due to its superior mechanical characteristics and extended shelf life which would allow the liner to be impregnated offsite and delivered ready for installation.

This award-winning liner has a smooth surface coupled with low wall thicknesses which maximises flow rate in supply pipes. Its composition also allows it to be tight-fitting and withstand pressures up to 33 bar depending on the DN of the pipe.

Understanding the complexities and difficult conditions, the team began the job with a thorough site inspection and SAERTEX multiCom provided a two-day theoretical and practical training course for all involved.

The project was divided into five sections with lengths between 58 and 128 metres with access pits at specific locations which ensured all the necessary works could be carried out over the excavation pits.

Following cleaning and CCTV inspections on the old pipe, the team pulled in the pre-impregnated liner and began the UV curing process.

With the incredible technology being used, the team was able to closely monitor the curing process and access real-time data from the camera integrated into their UV light chain.

The installation of SAERTEX- LINER H2O was a huge success and met all the necessary hygiene approvals for potable water, leaving nothing in the way of restarting the water supply to the pipeline.
