Vida reaches three-quarter mark for the West Gate tunnel

Tunnel boring machine Vida has broken the 2000 metre mark for the inbound tunnel on the West Gate Tunnel project.

The tunnel boring machine (TBM) is now over three quarters of the way through its journey, having bored 2013 metres and laid almost 888 of the 1014 concrete rings that will make up the inbound tunnel.

Bella, the TBM for the outbound tunnel, is 74 per cent of the way through its four-kilometre journey.

Construction on the project has been ongoing since early 2018, and tunnelling is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

The project is a significant part of Victoria’s Big Build – The state government’s massive infrastructure project, designed to ease congestions across the city ahead of rapid population growth.
