Operators in municipal works, including trenchless contractors working on crossing under and around roads, are set to benefit from a safety slogan in an unexpected place – a TA2 Mustang.
The muscle car sports the number forty – which represents the standard speed limit around active roadwork sites – and the slogan ‘SLOW DOWN, WORKERS AROUND.’
The initiative comes from Queensland company Access Linemarking Equipment and Municipal Works Australia (MWA).
MWA CEO Peter Ali said that the campaign aims to raise awareness around the number of serious injuries, and even deaths, sustained annually by workers as a result of inattentive drivers around road works.
“While carrying a message about ‘SLOW DOWN, WORKERS AROUND’ on a race car may seem strange to many people, we draw on the safety policies in place in pit lanes at racetracks where 40 kph is strictly enforced to keep the pit lane workers safe at all times,” said Ali.
Sponsored by Access Linemaking Equipment, the car will run in the 2023 Australian racing circuit throughout the year.
The car’s first outing will be at Winton, Queensland, on 18 and 19 March. It will also be displayed at MWA’s 29th National Municipal Works & Engineering Conference 2023, to be held in Bendigo on 23 and 24 March.
