NZ contractor uses Ditch Witch JT100 in challenging HDD installation

CEA

CDS used the HDD rig on a trenchless project in West Auckland, New Zealand.

The team at CDS put its Ditch Witch JT100 to work overcoming obstacles in the field.

On the West Auckland project, the machine was used by CDS to install 140m of 900mm diameter PE pipe at 1.6 per cent grade on a 170m radius bend.

“The compact size with plenty of power makes this drill the busiest of our Ditch Witch fleet,” CDS spokesperson Daniel Clough said.

“We were able to successfully complete the pilot shot on grade and on alignment.”

There were a few challenges encountered on the installation; however, curved, low grade drill shots are what CDS specialises in.

“Coupled with variable ground conditions at the downstream end of this drill shot meant there were plenty of challenges,” said Clough.

“CDS was able to rely on the JT100 Rig and CEA’s service to deliver for our clients.”
