Finding the right hose solution

Powell Industrial

With 12 branches across Australia, Powell Industrial is dedicated to providing total hose management solutions tailored to its customer’s individual needs.

Powell Industrial recognises that trenchless technology is a rapidly growing sector in the construction and civil engineering industry and has therefore ensured there are products to support many applications and situations.

As one of the largest Australian-owned suppliers of integrated industrial and hydraulic hose and fittings packages, the company has an extensive distribution and supply network, backed up by competitive pricing and highly skilled and knowledgeable customer service teams.

National Sales Manager for Industrial products Matt Pembroke spoke with Trenchless Australasia about Powell Industrial’s capabilities and its extensive range of products aimed at supporting the trenchless industry.

“Based on our industry experts and know how, from more than 30 years in the industrial and hydraulic hose and fittings business Powell Industrial has increased our range of dedicated products to service the markets and industries we support,” he said.

“Powell Industrial has strategically located branches that carry the full range of products and have dedicated stocked warehouses and customer service representatives ready to offer a better and more convenient service.”

Optima Kanamax HD Suction Hose

Known as the hero hose, the Optima Kanamax HD Suction Hose is a heavy-duty abrasion resistant suction hose for vacuum trucks.

It also possess the ability to handle abrasives such as crushed rock, sand, pea gravel, cement powder, dry fertiliser, iron ore, and grains.

Pembroke said the main advantages the Optima Kanamax HD has in comparison to its competitors is it being extremely abrasion resistant, static dissipating with no grounding wire and is also bi-directional.

Powell Industrial is committed to providing a safe and engaging work environment through the integration of health and safety into all business operations.

The Optima Kanamax Suction Hose reinforces the company’s safety message by having a 3:1 safety factor.

“This hose has a black corrugated SBR cover, with the inner tube comprising of a black SBR rubber conductive blend and an increased diameter blue nylon helix,” Pembroke said.

“It is reinforced with rigid PVC helix anti-shock and is suitable for temperatures -40° to +60°C.”

Exitflex Sewer Jetting Hose

The Exitflex sewer cleaning hose is designed for high-pressure and high-volume sewer cleaning vehicles and cleaning equipment.

Powell Industrial believe this is a must when the application calls for extreme durability while maintaining flexibility.

The EF301 sewer hose has been engineered and manufactured with a thermoplastic elastomer tube, 1 or 2 braids of high tensile synthetic fibre reinforcement, and a polyurethane cover that extends the life of the hose by improving cut and abrasion resistance.

Exitflex Tuff Wash Pressure Hose

When looking for the right product for heavy-duty cold and hot water pressure cleaning, look no further than the Exitflex PW6K Tuff wash.

The high-pressure, high-temperature pressure washer hose is suitable for cleaning applications to 420 bar.

Pembroke said the Exitflex Tuff Wash Pressure Hose is extremely flexible, lightweight, and easy to handle, and also resistant to most detergent fluids.

This product has a hard-wearing and durable cover to live up to the harsh conditions on hydro excavation.  The product was designed with the end user in mind where longevity is the name of the game.  This product is new to the market and has had outstanding success in its short time in the hydro excavation space.

High Pressure Spray Gun

Powell Industrial’s guns and lances are designed to work with the most popular Hydro excavation systems.

“These products are distinguished by high-quality European features that facilitate professional hydro excavation operations,” Pembroke said.

Handheld by the operator, the high-pressure gun allows the user to instantly stop the water flow by simply releasing the trigger.

The main features that reduce operator fatigue, even in the case of high pressure and flow, are the reduced opening force of the trigger and the ergonomic design.

High-Pressure Ceramic Rotating Nozzle

Further supporting the trenchless industry with its product range, Powell Industrial also offers the High-Pressure Ceramic Rotating Nozzle – a hydro-excavation and non-destructive digging nozzle.

Manufactured in Italy, the nozzle doesn’t include gears, teeth, or bearings, making it a simple design with less breakdowns.

“The High-Pressure Ceramic Rotating Nozzle has a strong forged brass body, robust ceramic nozzle tip, and a durable rubber and plastic cover,” Pembroke said.

The company is committed to continuous improvements in it services, systems and processes through an established Quality Management System based on the international quality management standard AS/NZS ISO 9001:2015.

“Our hose testing facilities work in accordance with ISO 17025:2017 requirements for the competence of testing,” Pembroke said.

“Powell Industrial has developed one of the most advanced pressure testing facilities available for hose assemblies. Our custom-built test units are fitted with highly sensitive live pressure, temperature and time recording equipment, giving Powell Industrial the ability to detect even the smallest leaks and defects in flexible hose assemblies both industrial and hydraulic.”

Pembroke said the company’s “cutting edge” equipment allows it to pressure test up to 26,000 psi (1800 bar), or vacuum testing to -95kpa.

“We can provide on-site pressure testing. All of our mechanical and electrical equipment is calibrated annually in accordance with NATA requirements,” he said.

Powell Industrial hose management platform uses the Infochip (TESSALink) for the tracking, inspection and recertification recording of both industrial and hydraulic hose assemblies. This strict quality and construction standards guarantee the safety of the products offered.
