WATCH: July update for Snowy 2.0

Snowy Hydro July

Snowy Hydro lead structural engineer Arlene Delacruz broke down the latest updates across the Snowy Hydro 2.0 project.

Over the next two years, the team behind Snowy 2.0 will build the equivalent of a 20-storey building 800munderground.

The design combines geotechnical, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering.

Delacruz said the excavation of the access tunnels and the temporary construction tunnels are 80 per cent complete, while the development of the two caverns for the power station complex is approximately 30 per cent complete at Lobs Hole.

“We are using drill and blast to excavate the taverns and support the rock faces with rock bolts, mesh and shotcrete,” she said.

“The structural design of the power station complex combines precast elements and cast in situ concrete works.

“We are planning ahead with the power station construction methodology to ensure the smooth execution of the precast installation and assembly underground.”

At the Talbingo intake, the Snowy 2.0 team has excavated all the way to bottom with the rock face now 110m high.

“The Snowy delivery team is currently preparing for the drill and blast tunnel operations that will connect the tailrace tunnel and the intake structure,” Delacruz said.
