OptionX Bournedrill overcomes storm damage with strategic upgrades

In December 2023, the OptionX Bournedrill workshop, located in Queensland, faced a significant challenge when massive storms tore through the region.

The destructive weather caused several million dollars worth of damage, disrupting production, work, and scheduling right before Christmas.

Thankfully, there were no injuries, but the impact on the workshop was substantial.

In response to this unexpected setback, the leadership at OptionX Group, the parent company of OptionX Bournedrill, decided to turn adversity into an opportunity.

Rather than viewing the storm as a disaster, Stuart Harrison, CEO of OptionX Group, chose to see it as a chance to enhance OptionX Bournedrill’s capabilities, and encouraged the team to look towards the future.

“When the storm hit, it was a tough moment for all of us, seeing the damage to the workshop and knowing how it would affect our production,” Tom Chart, Head of Manufacturing at OptionX Group said.

“But instead of just repairing the damage, we saw this as a unique chance to push OptionX Bournedrill forward.

“The new equipment we’ve brought in not only replaces what was lost but takes our capabilities to the next level.

“We’re now better equipped than ever to take on bigger, more complex projects and deliver even greater results for our clients.”

A new double-column gantry CNC milling machine with a programmable head has recently been installed, featuring an impressive 6m by 2m table capable of handling up to 15 tonnes of material.

Additionally, a brand-new Smart Machine Tool CNC machine has been commissioned, further expanding OptionX Bournedrill’s capabilities and boosting output volume.

Ongoing improvement

Along with new equipment and expanded capabilities, OptionX Bournedrill remains committed to ongoing improvement.

Recognising the importance of strengthening customer relationships and service, the company has enhanced its management and sales teams to better meet client needs.

In recent months, Rob Corrigan has joined as General Manager, bringing a wealth of experience and fresh insight.

Supporting him is Craig Hills, the new Operations Manager, who shares an enthusiasm for tackling the challenges and growth opportunities at OptionX Bournedrill.

Enrico Da Costa has also joined as Internal Sales and Purchasing Officer, adding renewed energy and a strong focus on customer service.

“As we move forward, our focus is on building resilience and expanding capabilities,” Corrigan said.

“With new equipment and a strengthened team, we’re well-positioned to take on greater challenges and deliver exceptional results.

“This next phase is about leveraging our advancements to offer even more value to our customers.”

With a commitment to top-level service, efficiency, and customer care, OptionX Bournedrill is dedicated to advancing its support for the drilling, tunnelling, and boring industry.
