Rob Carr project claims national CCF award

Rob Car and Water Corporation’s Quinns Main Sewer Extension Project was recently announced as the winner of the National Civil Contractors Federation’s (CCF) National Earth Awards in the $30m – $75m category.

It was announced in September that the project had claimed the CCF WA Earth award in the same category – now it has claimed the national accolade as well.

The project, delivered under a design and construct contract, involved 1.8km of slurry microtunnelling, open trench excavation, and a challenging 500m curved drive beneath a freeway and railway.

Shaft excavations reached depths of up to 27m, incorporating two highly precise vortex structures.

The project showcased Rob Carr’s head contractor experience and capability with large diameter and long drive microtunnelling through suburbia in variable ground conditions.

Much of the work was constructed within tight site footprints and environmentally sensitive areas.

This achievement highlighted the successful partnership between contractor and client, with seamless coordination to minimise community impact and prioritise safety and environmental management.

In a statement, General Manager Angelo Soumboulidis said receiving the award was a proud moment for the company, and another “fantastic result”.

“The Quinns Main Sewer Extension Project was a very intricate and complex project and a fantastic achievement,” Soumboulidis said.

“Ultimately it couldn’t have been achieved without a dedicated construction team led by Andrew Youngs, Paul Lee, Meadhbh Moloney, and Adam Shanley, and of course the support of a fantastic client in the Water Corporation. Well done!”

The CCF congratulated Rob Carr and Water Corporation for their outstanding achievement at the 2024 National Earth Awards in the $30m-$75m category.

CCF WA also recently praised those involved in the project for their stakeholder management as coordination involving schools, residents, and multiple government bodies proved crucial to minimising impact and enhancing community relations.

Safety and environmental stewardship were also paramount, constantly managing risk for our team, the public, and the national park.

Rob Carr is part of global entities Soletanche Bachy, world leader in underground engineering, foundations and soil technologies and VINCI, world leader in concessions, energy and construction in more than 120 countries.
