Bothar has been awarded works to relocate a sewer at Doncaster Road as part of the Eastern Freeway Upgrade: Burke to Tram Road, being delivered by Eastern Freeway – Burke to Tram Alliance (EBTA) with Laing O’Rourke, Symal, Arcadis and WSP.
The Eastern Freeway Upgrade between Burke and Tram roads is a major project in Victoria which includes major road and bridge upgrades as well as a new interchange connecting the Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels.
Bothar’s scope of (early works) on the Doncaster Package includes the construction of specialist secant piled shafts, installation of approximately 430m of new sewer mains, installation of new sewer maintenance holes and the decommissioning of redundant sewer assets.
Bothar looks forward to working with EBTA and safely delivering this vital project as part of the broader Eastern Freeway: Burke to Tram Road scope of work.
Bothar is also celebrating the completion of another successful crossing at their Kemps Creek project for valued client Quickway.
The Kemps Creek Project is particularly noteworthy for the complex, water-charged ground conditions it navigates, providing an ideal platform for Bothar to showcase its advanced trenchless technology and engineering expertise.
Utilising a Bothar-built Earth Pressure Balance Tunnel Boring Machine (EPB-TBM) with a DN1200 (1450mm OD) configuration, the project involved the construction of dual pressure wastewater mains consisting of two 270m drives and two 176m drives, of which only one 176m drive remains to be completed.
The challenging project traversed environmentally sensitive areas and zones with high traffic volumes, requiring meticulous planning and execution to minimise community impact. Additionally, the longer twin drives necessitated the use of multiple interjacks, adding another layer of complexity that highlights Bothar’s ability to successfully navigate challenging projects.
“Bothar has a significant amount of work on the horizon, we are excited to work collaboratively with our clients to deliver these projects safely and successfully. The business is expanding and with that, we have purchased additional equipment to keep up with demand,” General Manager David King said.
Bothar has purchased a new Herrenknecht AVN400 kit as well as upgraded control cabins and components.
The company also has another AVN800 and an AVN1000 on the way from its Canadian fleet which is a testament to its growth in the ever-evolving trenchless industry.
