Cleanflow Environmental Solutions’ 100-year approach to WA pipelines

Overcoming challenges with advanced trenchless technology, sustainable solutions, and reliable partnerships.

Cleanflow Environmental Solutions is leading the way in pipeline renewal across Western Australia, delivering long-term trenchless solutions that reduce operational costs and extend the life of critical infrastructure. With a strong commitment to sustainability and community responsibility, the company continues to set new standards for environmentally friendly rehabilitation projects.

To achieve these high standards, Cleanflow Environmental Solutions uses SAERTEX multiCom® portfolio of UV-cured glass-reinforced pipe liners for its projects. The liners for gravity application have a technical service life of 100 years, providing reliable, long-term solutions that significantly reduce maintenance costs.

“SAERTEX-LINER service life gives us the confidence to assure our clients that we are delivering durable solutions, minimising maintenance costs, and reducing the overall life cycle costs of the new asset”, Sandro Milieri, CEO at Cleanflow Environmental Solutions said.

SAERTEX multiCom, a global leader in trenchless technology, manufactures its liners under stringent ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.  These certifications ensure quality across every stage, from manufacturing to impregnation, storage, and delivery.

With local stock and custom orders available in Australia and New Zealand through Pipe Core, Cleanflow Environmental Solutions relies on these liners for both urgent and planned projects.

“SAERTEX multiCom offers a variety of liner types for both gravity and pressure applications to meet the needs of various renewal scenarios,” Katharina Helming, SAERTEX multiCom Business Development Manager said.

“Further still, SAERTEX multiCom has undertaken the necessary testing to verify the expected 100-year technical service life.”

For a challenging project commissioned by the Water Corporation in the City of Melville, Western Australia, Cleanflow Environmental Solutions selected the SAERTEX-LINER® MULTI Type S+.

Renowned for its thinner wall thickness and structural integrity, this liner was ideal for rehabilitating over 500m of severely deteriorated sewer pipeline.

“Our liner range is suitable for both partially and fully deteriorated pipes, making it an ideal solution for such challenging conditions,” Helming said.

CCTV inspection revealed the pipeline’s condition was worse than initially anticipated, with defective joints and holes in the pipe walls allowing infiltration into the sewer system. The unknown thickness of the pipe wall posed a significant risk of failure.

The most demanding section, 189m of DN990 pipeline, presented substantial logistical and technical challenges, including collapsed sections of pipe.

“Previous attempts from other agencies to clear the pipeline had failed, adding complexity to the rehabilitation,” Milieri said.

Cleanflow Environmental Solutions addressed these challenges with its robotic cutter and specially designed carriage. The crew successfully removed large sheets of delaminated internal plastic liner from hard-to-reach areas. This innovative setup enabled precise cutting without compromising the pipe’s structural integrity – a task unattainable with conventional equipment. This innovation was pivotal to the project’s success.

Over a three-week period, a seven-member crew renewed the network. The result was a seamless, joint-free pipes with a 100-year technical service life, enhancing flow efficiency and avoiding the disruption of open trenching.

“With its superior mechanical properties, SAERTEX-LINER can be produced in very low wall thicknesses, ensuring only minimal reduction of the host pipe’s inner diameter. All liners for this project were delivered with a design wall thickness of 7mm,” Helming said.

The Water Corporation praised Cleanflow Environmental Solutions for its dedication and expertise.

“We couldn’t have done it without the entire Cleanflow team working hard to overcome all the challenges that kept appearing. It’s been a pleasure working with such a professional contractor who didn’t give up, adapted at every turn, and used their valuable knowledge to achieve the best outcome.”

Cleanflow Environmental Solutions continues to redefine trenchless rehabilitation through technical expertise, innovative problem-solving, and close collaboration with SAERTEX multiCom application engineers. By staying at the forefront of research and development, they streamline processes to deliver efficient, sustainable solutions.

With reliable products like SAERTEX-LINER MULTI Type S+ and the support of trusted partners like Pipe Core, Cleanflow Environmental Solutions is shaping a future where infrastructure renewal meets today’s challenges and stands the test of time.
