TasWater has had its hands full, working through the transformation of the Selfs Point sewer.
Work is now underway on the new 4.3km sewer pipeline which will connect the new sewage pump station at Macquarie Point with the upgraded sewage treatment plant at Selfs Point.
A total of 3000 concrete piles have been installed at Selfs Point in preparation for the construction of the new plant.
So far, 80 out of 124 concrete piles have been completed at the Macquarie Point Sewage Pump Station site.
The existing Selfs Point Sewage Treatment Plant was built in 1972 to support the treatment of Hobart’s wastewater.
The plant currently treats around nine megalitres of wastewater from Hobart suburbs including Lenah Valley, New Town, Mount Stuart, Sandy Bay, Dynnyrne, Tolmans Hill, Mount Nelson, and Taroona.
The expansion and upgrading of the existing plant, combined with the future decommissioning of the Macquarie Point Sewage Treatment Plant, will deliver improved environmental outcomes and the new state-of-the-art facilities and treatment technologies will enable TasWater to treat up to 25 megalitres of Hobart’s wastewater per day.
