Instant fix for big builds

Big Build

As the Big Build spend helps keep traffic flowing east towards Gippsland, it’s clear to see that not just aged pipes require repair and maintenance. Newly laid pipe goes through stringent testing, and swift repairs are necessary where faults are found. Too costly in time and money to remove a section of compromised pipeline, many clients prefer a trenchless method to correct defects.

Smart Lock Group has come up with a solution to keep clients, contractors and the community satisfied: the Smart Lock system, which makes repairing cracks, breaks, and voids in pipes a cinch.

Bryco Civil Construction recently partnered with Smart Lock Group to bring this solution to its Tier 1 and 2 clients. Bryco is a civil construction company operating from Pakenham in Melbourne’s east and Trafalgar in Gippsland. Its services include pipeline infrastructure solutions from pipelaying, CCTV pipeline inspection and reporting, non-destructive digging, drain cleaning, liquid waste recycling, and pipeline rectification.

According to Bryco, the Smart Lock system has been a hit, with many of its clients’ requesting installations of the stainless-steel sleeve and locking systems ranging between DN100 to DN 900. On occasion, Smart Lock Group has also supplied systems for larger pipes up to DN2250. The 100-year design life ensures that these products remain airtight and watertight far into the future.

“The Smart Lock system is the solution we’ve been looking for to complement our works,” Bryco Director Hayden Bryan said.

“Once we locate the defect, we’re called on for the repair, and we prefer to install this effective solution.

“The system is recommended by the WSAA and WRC, which allows us to put our reputation alongside the longevity of the sleeves we install.

“The Smart Lock system is also designed and manufactured in Australia, which is another factor that strongly resonates with clients.”

With a simple load, lock and leave design and no curing time, Smart Lock is designed for rapid deployment without the disruption associated with traditional repair methods. The system consists of a stainless-steel sleeve and locking system, fibreglass matting, and silicate resin which adheres to moist surfaces and has a high resistance to acid and alkaline water.

Together, a Smart Lock sleeve can be installed in as little as 30 minutes. This efficiency not only cuts down operational costs but also minimises a project’s carbon footprint.

Simple equipment is all that is needed to install the Smart Lock system. This includes a wheeled packer, CCTV inspection camera, air compressor, pull line, layout table, personal protective equipment, and additional safety equipment including underground access equipment.

Bryco Operations Manager Dean Schembri said the simplicity of installation is a welcome boon to any pipe rehabilitation project.

“We can work day or night to install all sleeve diameters, so efficiency is critical for us,” he said.

“The public is unaware of the sub-surface maintenance going on as they go about their daily commute, and that’s the way our clients like it – keeping the water and the traffic flowing.”
