A winning way forward for Interflow

Following a successful night at OzWater’s 2025 awards night, where Interflow took out the Water Industry Safety Excellence Award for its midline expansion trenchless rehabilitation, the company has reflected on where things began.

OzWater’s theme for 2025, ‘Looking back, moving forward’ was perfect for Interflow as it reflected both its proud history and mission to ‘Create the Future of Water’.

Looking all the way back to 1936, the company was founded by Harold Weaver under the name General Constructions.

From there, the company became one of the first to explore trenchless technology with the pot and drive method in 1956. This involved boring vertical shafts along the line of a pipe and connecting them with an unshored tunnel at the bottom.

Through the 1960s and 70s, Harold Weaver and his son Ron Weaver, who took over the business, connected with companies domestically and internationally, expanding General Constructions’ network.

In 1981, the company acquired Stang Australia which was renamed to Vortec Industries.

A decade later in 1991, General Constructions struck a deal with Pipeline Rehabilitations and Rib Loc Australia, adding pipe renewal works to its service offerings.

It was also this year that Geoff Weaver took the reins of the business, adding a third generation to the mix.

It was in 1996 when the entities all became one under its new name – Interflow. The name: Inter – symbolising the integration of the various business units and expressing the desire to one day become international; and Flow – pertaining to the water industry.

This marked a seminal moment for the business and corresponded with its significant push into the area of trenchless pipeline renewal which was still in its infancy.

Fast forward to 2022, when Geoff Weaver’s son Daniel was appointed as Interflow’s managing director.

He continues to lead Interflow into the future today, and the companies recent win at OzWater is testament to its mission of ‘Creating the Future of Water’.
