On a roll in New Zealand

Smart Lock Group continues to deepen its presence across the Tasman, reinforcing its position as a go-to provider for efficient, trenchless repair solutions.

Contractors NuFlow and Pipework Solutions – both owned by Dan Barnett – recently rolled out the Smart Lock repair system on their New Zealand trenchless projects, with the first being deployed in rehabilitation works for a major water utility on the North Island.

Backed by training and installation support from Smart Lock Group, the contractors executed the project efficiently and with no issues.

“The team has done an awesome job,” an asset manager from the utility company said. “The Smart Locks looked nice and tidy. We thank them for their good service.”

This is the latest in a long list of glowing reviews for Australian-based Smart Lock Group. The company’s flagship Smart Lock is also a domestic success, ensuring the structural repair of cracks, breaks, and voids in pipes.

With a simple load, lock and leave design and no curing time, Smart Lock is made for rapid deployment without the disruption potentially associated with traditional repair methods. The system consists of a stainless-steel sleeve and locking system, fibreglass matting, and silicate resin that adheres to moist surfaces and has a high resistance to acid and alkaline water.

A Smart Lock sleeve can be installed in as little as 30 minutes, which the company said not only cuts down operational costs but also helps to minimise a project’s carbon footprint.

Installing the Smart Lock system is straightforward and installation equipment includes a wheeled packer, CCTV inspection camera, air compressor, pull line, layout table, personal protective equipment, and additional safety equipment including underground access equipment.

The solution is suitable for pipes ranging between 100–900mm in diameter, with a larger variation called the Big Bore suitable for 1050–2100mm applications.

But Smart Lock Group delivers more than just a product. Team members like National Technical Manager Michael Nickolaus work closely with contractors such as NuFlow and Pipework Solutions to ensure systems are correctly deployed and will stand the test of time.

“Michael from Smart Lock is a great communicator, passionate about the product and a great all-round guy,” NuFlow Operations and Installation Technician Greg Young told Trenchless Australasia. “He was willing to teach us about the product and assist us with our first installations, which was a great confidence-booster for our team.

“Smart Lock is a simple, well-designed, fast-to-install product that has a robust stainless finish that looks great and fits perfectly.

“We look forward to using many more Smart Locks.”

For Nickolaus, the respect was mutual.

“NuFLow and Pipework Solutions are terrific partners, always striving to provide the best avenue of works for their clients using outside the box thinking,” he said.

“Dan Barnett is able to draw from his range of businesses across the trenchless, plumbing and heating sectors to find a solution to most challenges facing the market.

“Smart Lock Group looks forward to deepening its relationship with Dan and his team throughout New Zealand.”
