Microtunnelling is underway Sydney Airport’s south-west sector to install a new fuel line from T1 International.
This vital infrastructure will enable the opening of seven new bays, each outfitted with in-ground fuel, pre-conditioned air, and ground power, laying the groundwork for additional wide-body aircraft operations and future growth.
Rob Carr has deployed ‘Ethel’, a TBM, to site. Ethel will create the new fuel line, which will pass roughly 500m underneath the runway.
Once operational, the new area will allow aircraft to be refueled without returning to the main terminal, increasing overall capacity of the airport.
The project is expected to be completed in roughly two years.
