The ASTT Special Interest Group (SIG) for pipe linings has released amendment number one to its specification, DS-D001, design for structural renovation of pipelines by internal lining – part one: circular non-pressure pipelines.
This amendment specifically addresses the requirements for the design of patch repair linings which are short length linings for pipeline repair within an existing pipeline. The amendment is relevant to CIPP type linings as well as mechanical sleeves or hybrids of these two systems.
The amendment contains new definitions along with the design requirements specific to these short length linings compared to full length linings between end structures such as maintenance holes. The issue of bond to the host pipe, which is required for the CIPP type linings, is mentioned but it was decided to ignore this bond in the design requirements.
Design requirements for the partially (most common) and fully deteriorated conditions have been included with a similar design basis to full length linings.
As with other similar documents, the amendment needs to be read in conjunction with the main specification.
The SIG encourages the industry to become familiar with and promote the use of both this amendment and the main document prior to a review, in the second half of 2025, of both documents. This amendment will be incorporated into the Specification in its next release post the review.
The amendment can be downloaded from the members only section of the ASTT website, astt.com.au
Special thanks to the SIG working group of John Bower, John Monro, Jonathan Morris and Mohamed Yoosuf who led the development of this amendment.
