The 4.3 km water main will cost $A5.3 million and is expected to be fully installed by November 2015.
To minimise disruption to traffic and the local community during the installation process, Water Corporation has elected to use trenchless techniques.
The project was commissioned as a response to the increased population and demand for water in the area.
Water Minister Mia Davies said, “This new water main will cater for growth in Byford and also ensure residents have more consistent water pressure throughout the year.”
The project is part of the Integrated Water Supply Scheme (IWWS), which delivers water to more than 2 million people in Perth and the surrounding regions.
The Water Corporation currently manages 13,600 km of water mains in the Perth metro area and supplied nearly 300 billion litres of water to customer connected to IWWS in 2014-14.
