Running from 8-11 September 2015, the No-Dig Down Under Technical program includes speakers on all aspects of pipeline rehabilitation and repair, as well as installation and management of other underground utilities.
Highlights of the technical program include Keynote presentations from some of the most influential organisations across Queensland.
Richard Petterson – Executive Leader Operations and Service Delivery, at Queensland Urban Utilities (QUU), 9.15 am Wednesday 9 September.
Mr Petterson will be talking on updates to QUU’s most noteworthy trenchless projects, future investments into no-dig technologies and current use of technologies in maintaining the water utility’s assets.
Mr Petterson is responsible for the leadership and strategic direction of Queensland Urban Utilities’ operations and services delivery, which includes major projects, capital program, network operations, infrastructure maintenance and reliability, and treatment.
He has significant experience in engineering and the water industry. His career has included senior roles in both the private and public sectors across a broad range of industry functions. Prior to joining Queensland Urban Utilities, Mr Petterson has worked with TRILITY Pty Ltd where he was the national Operations Director, and earlier held a senior management position at Sydney Water Corporation.
Kim Staheli – Chair of North America Society for Trenchless Technology, 9.15 am Wednesday 9 September.
Ms Staheli will be sharing her vast knowledge on the state of the Trenchless Industry. She is the current Chair of the North America Society for Trenchless Technology, one of the largest and most active Chapters of the ISTT.
She is also the President and founder of Staheli Trenchless Consultants and has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a MS in Civil Engineering from Mississippi State University and a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. Ms Staheli teaches the NASTT Trenchless Technology Short Course and the NASTT and ASTT New Installations Course.
Phil Chipman – GoldLinQ Technical Director, 9.15 Thursday 10 September.
Mr Chipman worked on the GoldlinQ project since the start of the design phase, working with the organisation’s contractors through the whole of delivery. The presentation will look at how the construction of the State’s first light rail involved the extensive use of Trenchless Technology to relocate a number of major services. Innovative engineering solutions used to improve these services include horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and microtunnelling, which were chosen because they represented the best engineering solutions to upgrade the services.
Lance Parkes – Manager of Standards and Field Practices, at nbn and Vermeer, 10.00 am Friday 11 September.
Mr Parkes will speaking on “÷Rolling out a national broadband network’ at the special breakfast presentation, giving attendees an update on how the nbn roll-out is going from the construction side, with a general focus on the use of directional drilling and no-dig techniques.
Looking at a US case-study, Vermeer will talk on developing software for the next phase of broadband roll-outs that started in 2015 in several US cities, which have been utilising HDD in many cases.
