Peter Terrett, Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) mapping specialist, will talk about how efficient GIS mapping and field data capture of subsurface utilities using latest innovations in GPS/GNSS technologies.
Utility Managers often are seeking much more specific knowledge and skills to acquire actionable data to better manage critical asset infrastructure and networks. This often requires field data collection to verify and validate attributes and conduct audits with condition assessments to underpin data for enterprise systems and Strategic Asset Management plans.

Urban Utilities Project Manager Andrew Nicholson’s conference theme is “harnessing innovation for safety excellence”.
This project involved undertaking a condition assessment of the existing trunk sewer rising main located between Eagle Farm and Luggage Point Sewerage Treatment Plant in Brisbane.
These electromagnetic inspections have previously been conducted by draining and cleaning the pipe and using a human propelled tricycle to move the tool through the pipeline. Extensive cleaning of the pipes is required prior to the inspection due to sediment build-up at the low points.
Cleaning is performed by hand, and visual assessments required means extensive periods of confined space work.
On the same day, Picote Solutions director of technical client services Richard David Swan will explore the benefits of high-speed cleaning of water mains and sewerage pipes as an enabler for pipe rehabilitation.
High-speed cleaning and descaling options have become mainstream in wastewater applications over the last few years.
Traditional mechanical cleaning equipment rotates at speeds of around 200 rotation per minute (RPM), whereas high-speed cleaning machines start at 500 RPM and then increase to 1500-2900 RPM depending on the model. By opening up these possibilities to the clean water sector, more can be achieved in much less time, not only reducing traffic disruption and carbon emissions, but enabling rehabilitation to tackle leakage targets.
