Looking forward to another exciting year

Trenchless Australasia, first published in 2004 by Great Southern Press, is a magazine for the industry to communicate the benefits of Trenchless Technology to the wider community.

Over 3,000 copies of each edition of Trenchless Australasia are printed and distributed to ASTT members and asset owners, councils and utilities and other government leaders.

As well as providing a vital tool for communication within the industry, Trenchless Australasia also acts as a flagship to represent the industry more broadly, educate decision-makers and to expand the industry.

One of the biggest goals of Trenchless Australasia and the ASTT is to preach beyond the choir, and in 2012 it is through the success of the ASTT Roadshow that this has best been demonstrated.

Throughout May and June, the ASTT Roadshow toured most Australian and New Zealand capital cities, educating a new audience about the benefits of Trenchless Technology. The program, led by Blair Telfer from ProjectMax, provided essential trenchless training to underground infrastructure employees.

ASTT Chairman Trevor Gosatti said the ASTT fostered the program to provide vital training to council and utility workers as part of the objectives of the society.

We were pleased to see such a diverse range of participants attend the two-day masterclass, which included graduate engineers who were eager to learn; council representatives who came to find out about technologies that could be implemented in future projects; and experienced engineers who wanted to learn about the latest technologies to hit the market.

The ASTT Roadshow took place in more cities and was attended by more attendees than ever before, something that can give the industry confidence that the knowledge of Trenchless Technology is constantly being transferred.

In 2012 we continue to see the Trenchless Australasia Jobs portal grow to become a hub for trenchless industry job-seekers.

The portal allows job-seekers to search for and apply online for jobs specific to every part of the trenchless industry. In addition to being seen by visitors to the website, job advertisements are also viewed by the 4,000+ subscribers to the Trenchless Australasia newsletter, which in 2012 – due to popular demand – is now distributed weekly.

Another exciting product launch for the industry in 2012 is the Trenchless Australasia Online Shop.

The shop provides trenchless professionals with published papers, how-to guides, wall-charts and additional materials to help expand their knowledge in all things Trenchless Technology.

The new online shop has essential resources that you can share with your team and company to keep up-to-date with contemporary issues, challenges and technology exposed to the trenchless industry.

Of course the Trenchless Australasia team is also excited to be heading Trenchless Live 2012, taking place at the Melbourne Showgrounds from 23-24 October 2012. The event will be an opportunity for attendees to see live demonstrations of Trenchless Technology as well as a technical program featuring presentations from industry leaders.

In 2013 Trenchless Australasia will continue to promote the advancement of Trenchless Technology through what will be the biggest gathering of trenchless professionals in Australasia for nearly a decade.

When Trenchless Australasia attended the Trenchless Asia conference in early July, the ASTT and the ISTT signed the contract for International No-Dig Down Under 2013, finalising the agreement for the event that will be hosted in Sydney from 1-4 September.

No-Dig Down Under 2013, comprising the 31st International No-Dig and the 10th ASTT Conference and Exhibition, will be a fantastic event and I look forward to seeing you there.

We already have a number of sponsors for the event on board, and the Call for Papers is officially open. Visit www.nodigdownunder.com for more information or to enter a submission.

Looking ahead, to ensure the continued growth of Trenchless Technology, we will work with the ASTT to lobby governments and key stakeholders to ensure more people understand the benefits of trenchless and support its widespread use.

We will also be consulting with industry to release state-of-the Trenchless Technology industry reports which will highlight industry trends, views and identify challenges and where there may be opportunity for further innovation.

As our readers are our industry partners, Trenchless Australasia is keen to hear what you would like to see reported on. We are always open to any suggestions or feedback, so please feel free to contact anyone on the team.

This year we say a temporary farewell to Associate Editor Laura Harvey, who will be going on maternity leave. We wish her all the best and look forward to her return in 2013. As we say farewell to Laura, we also welcome Tori McLennon into the role for the year ahead. Tori is looking forward to meeting as many industry members as possible at Trenchless Live 2012.

In 2013 and beyond, the entire Trenchless Australasia team will continue to work hard in order to ensure that the magazine and related events are the best that they can be.

Trenchless Australasia thanks the ASTT Councillors, members, and all of our advertisers, exhibitors and contributors in making what we do possible.

2013 is shaping up to be our biggest year yet, and we are excited to work together with you all to continue the growth of Trenchless Technology.
