More job adverts heralds good news for the economy

According to human resources firm Drake Australia, the data is good news for the economy as recent trends show employers advertising more for permanent and full time workers rather than casual and temporary workers compared with the same period last year.

“The fact that we are seeing record growth in job advertisements indicates that the reduction in unemployment over the past two months is gathering pace,” said Head of Drake Australia Matthew Tukaki.

Mr Tukaki said that Australia’s economic recovery is expected to accelerate in the coming months.

“As we move through the first quarter of 2010, the recovery will be well underway especially when compared with other developed countries’ growth and employment levels,” Mr Tukaki said.

This information follows a recent Global Construction Survey conducted by KPMG which predicted a positive future for the global construction industry, despite tough economic times.

KPMG’s survey found that over two thirds of Australian respondents have achieved or exceeded their backlog and profit levels in the past twelve months when compared with same period last year. Three out of four local contractors expect to achieve or improve current levels of backlog and profits over the next twelve months.
