TasWater and engineering firm GHD have announced a decade long-term partnership worth $100 million, promising to deliver stronger, smarter water and sewerage services across Tasmania.
The partnership involves a range of dams, water and sewerage upgrades across Tasmania. This partnership marks a significant shift from fragmented, short-term contracts to a collaborative, long-term approach, enabling the delivery of a shared vision for water infrastructure in Tasmania.
The new delivery model is designed to provide greater certainty, efficiency and value for Tasmanian communities by embedding shared governance, joint planning and outcome-focused delivery.
TasWater General Manager of Project Delivery Tony Willmott said it is investing billions of dollars into Tasmania’s future, and needed a partner fit to reflect that committment.
“We need trusted partners who can provide not just technical expertise, but also a shared commitment to our communities,” he said. “Our partnership with GHD will help us plan and design the right projects, at the right time, with the best value for customers. Together, we’re building a stronger, smarter and more sustainable water future for Tasmania.”
GHD will provide integrated planning and design across major projects, renewals, technology upgrades and more, supporting TasWater’s entire programme. The collaborative partnership model means TasWater and its partners share both risks and rewards, leading to improved confidence in project delivery, increased efficiency and strengthened community trust.
GHD has operated continuously in Tasmania for nearly 90 years, with a local team of more than 190 people working across Hobart, Burnie, Launceston and Queenstown. The team brings deep local knowledge and global experience to projects that matter for Tasmanian communities.
