Rob Carr’s Gnangara Branch Sewer Section 2 project has received a Contractors Federation (CCF) WA award.
The microtunnelling development won the award for excellence in civil construction on a $5 to $10 million project at CCF WA’s Earth Awards on 16 September.
The project required Rob Carr to closely collaborate with the client, Water Corporation, to tackle logistical issues, as a number of stakeholders required access to operational facilities.
The microtunnelling also overcame a number of challenges when navigating in-ground infrastructure and structures along the alignment of the sewer.
The project involved constructing a new pressure main to the sewer section along Lancaster Road in Wangara.
With a constrained timeframe, the team constructed 1813 m of gravity and pressure sewer infrastructure, working around dense commercial and light industrial areas.
The company completed 4 drives, reaching a total 500 metres of microtunnelling.
During the works, the teams managed to successfully complete a DN1000 glass reinforced plastic, 259-metre microtunnel in 10 days.
Winners from the state awards qualify for the CCF National Earth Awards, to be held in Canberra on Friday 11 November.
