Billions of naturally occurring microorganisms have been successfully transferred to Watercare’s upgraded Clarks Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant, marking a major milestone in bringing the new facility into service.
TDG supported the transfer using specialised vacuum loader trucks, transporting activated sludge from the Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant to Clarks Beach over two days.
This activated sludge is the biological engine of the treatment process, helping remove organic matter and nutrients from wastewater before UV disinfection.
Projects like this are playing an important role in future-proofing essential water infrastructure while supporting improved environmental outcomes for local waterways and the Manukau Harbour in light of the rapid expansion of Auckland’s southwestern corridor.
