Despite a difficult financial year due to the current global economic situation, WDS Limited earned a revenue of $A495 million ($US459.5 million), 74 per cent above the previous corresponding period.
“This year has been a difficult year for all industry sectors as the global financial crisis caused severe dislocations in traditional business practices and unforeseen contraction in project activities,” said CEO of WDS Limited Gareth J. Mann.
“However we have achieved a solid performance through the period which has seen WDS maintain its record of continued growth, year on year, since inception.”
- Current projects on WDS Limited’s scope using Trenchless Technology in Australasia include:
- The construction of Narrabeen Sewer and Hoxton Park for Networks Alliance using microtunnelling of various drives lengths and sizes for sewer pipelines with pipe jacking technology
- Pimpama 4.1 – micro tunnelling pipelines 800 mm diameter in the Gold Coast Region
- Beenleigh Merrimac Pimpama – microtunnelling pipelines of 900 mm and 1,200 mm diameter in the Gold Coast region
One of the highlights for WDS for 2009 was the establishment of their presence in the Sultunate of Oman. The repercussions of the Global Financial Crisis in the Middle East have severely impacted many other microtunelling markets in the region, and so WDS will be moving it’s focus to Oman where government funded infrastructure projects have been relatively unaffected.
“As the economy recovers, we have identified a number of key areas for growth and in this regard our main areas of focus are the energy, infrastructure and water sectors. Our work in restructuring the Group during this period will establish solid foundations enabling WDS to pursue these opportunities,” said Mr. Mann.
