UEA Trenchless successfully completed four 200 m horizontal directional drilling (HDD) installations located under a large tidal stormwater culvert in the sensitive local community environment.
Installation of the crossing was the first construction activity for the major infrastructure project that will connect two substations in Western Sydney.
The preventative work ensures the replacement of key cables that supply power to Sydney’s inner western suburbs will be possible.
The installation was undertaken using the 9.8T Ditch Witch AT3020 product, which completed the work through partial rock ground conditions.
The difficult and unpredictable ground conditions, as well as the tidal nature of the water charged ground, were the most significant challenges faced during the project.
The project comprised of the following:
- Four separate parallel HDD under bores of 200 m each
- 3 x 225 mm PE
- 1 x 110 mm PE and trenched transitions to PVC concrete encased conduits.
Project management was carried out in close consultation with both the client and local government to ensure stakeholders and community members were informed.
