The project will include the installation of twin water and sewer mains housed in a tunnel 10 m beneath the Brisbane River, and the fitting of 2 km of new sewer mains and 600 m of new water mains to service the Jindalee area.
The pipes will be contained inside a 1.7 m diameter tunnel which is being installed using a large tunnel boring machine.
Queensland Urban Utilities spokesperson Michelle Cull said “Once completed, the new pipeline will improve reliability of water and sewerage services in the western suburbs.”
With the construction of access shafts at Kingfisher Park and the Jindalee Scout Hall already in progress, the project is expected to be in full swing by the end of August.
The Jindalee to Kenmore pipeline is part of Queensland Urban Utilities’ $A229 million capital works program for 2015-16 and should be completed in the next 12 months.
